The business was formed in 1994 as a specialist motor insurance agency, and subsequently became an insurance company (Truck and General Insurance Company Limited). In 2003 the company was taken over by the Constantia Group and John W Towsey and Associates (Pty) Limited, and began trading as Wheels Underwriting Managers.

Under the new management, Wheels Underwriting Managers, developed its position as a significant underwriter of heavy commercial vehicles and motorcycle insurance and its reputation for providing exceptional service to clients.

In 2010 the business known as “Wheels Underwriting Managers” was purchased by a newly formed company, Wheels Underwriting Managers (Pty) Limited, which is owned 40 percent by John W Towsey and Associates (Pty) Limited, 40 percent by management shareholders and 20 percent by Constantia Insurance Holdings (Pty) Limited.

Wheels Underwriting Managers (Pty) Limited offers a highly specialised and innovative range of transport products and services, and has a major presence in both the commercial trucking and personal line motorcycle and classic car markets. Wheels has a track record of providing superior service, daily claims payments and an empowered claims staff.

Business is generated through an established network of FAIS-accredited brokers, with broker liaison centres in Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Cape Town.
