RE Exams: Our KIs and Reps are doing well!

Regulatory Exams

With the 30 June 2012 deadline looming, we are thrilled to announce that 75% of our Representatives and ALL of our Key Individuals have passed the RE exams. Those Reps who were not successful only missed it by a very small margin and are determined to get the exam under their belt before the end of April, which is long before the deadline.

Quite a few have done more than simply pass. Our Regional Marketing Manager in Port Elizabeth scored a whopping 94%, and many more have scored 80% and more.

We can even brag about two staff members who are not Key Individuals have also written and passed that exam!

Important information for Transporters

Information to be passed on to Transporters

This information is courtesy of our recovery agent, Eugene Truter from KVTR who attended a Truck Hijacking Meeting at the Heidelberg Police Station recently. Please pass it on to your transporter clients.

I am pleased to report back that the police are eager to address the problem of truck hijackings. They have identified the problem and have invited all relevant role players to join the effort to combat the problem.

The police have identified the N3 freeway and the R23 road between the weigh bridge and airfield, Heidelberg, currently as one of the most problematic areas. The statistics, which were gathered over the past few months, indicate the following:

The vast majority of hijackings occurred between Mondays and Friday, with the most incidents occurring on Tuesdays and then secondly on Thursdays and Fridays. No incidents were recorded on Wednesdays.

The hijackings occurred between 19:00 and 24:00. In one incident the hijacking was committed at 16:00. The timeframe between 19:00 and 20:00 were the busiest.

All hijacking incidents on the N3 freeway have occurred when the vehicles were travelling towards Gauteng Province, thus the north bound of the freeway.

In a few incidents have the drivers given false statements to the police. Although the hijackings were legitimate the drivers have given false statements out of fear for their employers as they have unlawfully stopped and picked up hitchhikers.

In all the incidents were the drivers held hostage until such time that the truck’s tracking/Fleet Management system were compromised.

Indications are that quite a number of tipper trucks that are hijacked are taken down to the Lebombo border. In some cases the trucks have already appeared at the border a few hours after the hijacking occurred, while in other cases it has taken about five days before the trucks tried to cross the mentioned border.

A joint operation, consisting of the SAPS, Traffic Police, Truck Hijacking Unit, Organised Crime Unit, Tracker, private investigators from truck companies and KVTR were scheduled whereby various trucks on the mentioned routes will be stopped, checked and made aware of the hijacking problem. There will also be liaised with the owners of these truck companies.

The hijacking meeting will henceforward be held on a regular basis and feedback will be given.
